Australian Capital Territory Numbered Acts Australian Capital Territory Numbered Acts(1) The road transport authority may, if satisfied there are insufficient private hire cars to meet an actual or predicted demand for private hire cars, publish in a daily newspaper published and circulating in the Territory a notice stating that restricted hire vehicles may be operated as a private hire car for the period stated in the notice.
(2) A restricted hire vehicle operating as a private hire car under this section—
(a) is taken not to be a private hire car for this Part; but
(b) is taken to be a private hire car for provisions dealing with fares in regulations made under this Act.
(3) A person must not, without reasonable excuse, operate a restricted hire vehicle as a private hire car other than in accordance with a notice under this section.
Maximum penalty: 20 penalty units.
