(1) A police officer or authorised person may give a person such directions as the police officer or authorised person considers necessary or expedient if the police officer or authorised person (a) finds the person committing an offence against the Act, the Passenger Transport Services Act 2011 or the Taxi and Hire Vehicle Industries Act 2008 ; or(b) reasonably believes that the person has committed an offence against the Act, the Passenger Transport Services Act 2011 or the Taxi and Hire Vehicle Industries Act 2008 .

Rule 304 also deals with directions by police officers and authorised persons, being directions for the safe and efficient regulation of traffic.(2) A person must obey a direction given to the person under this rule whether or not the person may contravene another provision of the Road Rules by obeying the direction.Penalty: Fine not exceeding 15 penalty units.(3) It is a defence to the prosecution of a person for an offence against a provision of the Road Rules if, at the time of the offence, the person was obeying a direction given to the person under subrule (1).
