ROAD RULES 2019 - REG 359

Livestock on road not to be unattended
(1)  A person must not lead livestock on a road unless the livestock are accompanied by –
(a) if the road is a main road – at least 2 persons, one at the front and one at the rear of the livestock; or
(b) if the road is another kind of road –
(i) at least 2 persons, one at the front and one at the rear of the livestock; or
(ii) at least one person, assisted by a sheep dog or cattle dog.
Penalty:  Fine not exceeding 15 penalty units.

Note

Lead and livestock are defined in the dictionary.
(2)  Subrule (1) does not apply to livestock that are –
(a) being led by means of halters, reins or ropes; or
(b) crossing a road accompanied by at least one person.
(3)  For the purposes of subrule (2), livestock are taken not to be crossing a road if the livestock are led along the road for more than 100 metres.
(4)  In this rule –
main road means a State highway or subsidiary road within the meaning of the Roads and Jetties Act 1935 ;
road does not include a road-related area, but includes any shoulder of a road.
